Nashville-based singer/songwriter Sam Pinkerton has released three songs, all of which are available to download from her website. Her formula is simple: guitar, voice, feeling. It is amazing how much the pick of guitar can make you feel, especially when it is paired with a perplexingly calming voice – a voice with such a peculiar tone that you feel sure you’ve heard it before. Why else would you be leaning into the speaker? Trust me. You haven’t. It is her charm that is making you want to be closer to the output.
Sam Pinkerton likes to keep boys at bay, or so she would like them to think by telling them “I Will Never Fall in Love With You” – the first track on her self-designed LP. Underneath the words meant to keep the boys at a distance is the hint of a young woman finding her way through this crazy little thing called love. Her writing displays tremendous emotional intelligence. You can tell from her short catalogue that she uses her music to process the things in life that she doesn’t understand yet, replicating her feelings with the music and therefore giving the unexplained a place to breath and escape. The wonderful thing about her lyrics is that she actually sings them to you. Her songs go beyond a pairing of words and notes, and it enter that bittersweet realm of folk storytelling. Her songs are captivating and grip you until their end; her voice invigorating and soothing at the same time. She is one to watch. Sam Pinkerton has a bright future ahead of her.
